Definitely an acquired taste, given the high-concept of adults playing children, Pen15 was Emmy-nominated last year for its writing and is well worth trying if you've got a Hulu subscription.
In order to survive a summer of wedding fever, longtime single friends, Ben and Alice, agree to be each other's plus one at every wedding they've been invited to.
Travel back in time to check out the early roles of some of Hollywood's heavy hitters. The second season of PEN15 will receive its UK premiere on Sky Comedy on Monday October 5th at 9pm, it has been announced. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. Most of the set-ups are traditional fare: Maya facing the first day of school with a terrible bowl haircut inflicted by her mother; Anna being tongue-tied during a trip to the school nurse with the boy she has a crush on; the pair being peer-pressured into drinking and getting high for the first time. The platform’s incredibly horny teen romance The Kissing Booth was a runaway success last year; 13 Reasons Why, an exploration of the secrets in teenagers’ lives, was such a phenomenon that it became a public-relations problem.
What makes PEN15 even more compelling, is the fact that 13-year-old Maya and Anna are played by 30-something-year-old comedians, Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle, in amongst a cast of actual young teenagers. But Netflix isn’t technically TV and, as a result, can sidestep most of these restrictions. As with – the almost peerless – Booksmart and Derry Girls, PEN15 is remarkable for the seriousness (underneath the laughs) with which it treats juvenile and especially female juvenile relationships.
And perhaps to nobody’s surprise, teenagers—who watch Netflix more than twice as much as they watch cable—are hungry for information about sex. Our favorite bowl haircut-wearing, bedpost-kissing, and brace-faced duo is back, and better than ever! 503, Anna and Maya embrace witchcraft in this Halloween-adjacent.
Anna Lewis is the News Editor at Delish UK, which means she’s always either writing about food, cooking food or eating food. The RuPaul’s Drag Race UK trailer is finally here!

Sex Education is not daunted by this. At the same time it offers a sobering look at what adolescence, particularly for girls, amounts to. Title: You can also enjoy the two preceding series on Apple TV Plus if you've never seen them before. Which is useful context, because the camera is close enough to his penis, and spends enough time looking at it, for the viewer to determine that it is lengthy and uncircumcised. They also have to encounter their feelings towards real-life boys for the first time ever, which I think we can all admit is a f*cking nightmare when you’re 13. Changing social norms about sex has made it easier to be explicit about what teenagers think about, and the teen movies of the 80s and 90s made tropes like losing it on prom night or getting laid before graduation into a kind of high-school shorthand. Here's you in your third year vs you in your first year, Jacqueline Wilson confirms Tracy Beaker is back, What drag queens taught me about confidence. All available streaming options in the UK: The show is very careful; Sex Education reiterates that its characters are all in a sixth-form college, which technically makes them all just over 16, the age of consent in the United Kingdom. 1,378, This story has been shared 1,070 times. The original series is an opus to that era in middle school when all of us were just awkwardly navigating our raging hormones while feeling like an outcast.
All rights reserved. In an age where shock-value and the lowest denominator passes for "comedy", this series presents us with a new category that combines the awkward "first times" and innocence of youth with a nostalgic yet irreverent eye of adult humor. Sex Education debuted in January; on Friday, Hulu premieres Pen15, a comedy from duo Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle inspired by their uncomfortable middle-school years. Get ready for some mortifying flashbacks. View production, box office, & company info, Fall TV 2020: All the Premiere Dates for New and Returning Shows – So Far (Photos). It's also showing in some theaters in the US. Like Sex Education, it’s live-action and unsparing; Erskine’s character gets her period during the season, and she prods and sniffs at the viscous red stain in her underwear. A woman seeks out ways to change her life without changing her body.
I really hope it survives a few more seasons. Pen15 stars comedians Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle as the teenage versions of themselves in middle school. Just don't expect something in the tonal range of The Haunting of Hill House – this is a little too trashy for our tastes. Set in a timeframe that spans World War II and the Vietnam War in the town of Knockemstiff, Ohio, it's an epic (if depressing) drama about the clashing morality of the town's various citizens. The occasional moment when Maya and Anna succeed in bringing the rest of their peer group over to “their” side rather than vice versa – as when during Show and Tell, Maya launches into a wholehearted impersonation of her favourite parts of Ace Ventura Pet Detective and manages to get the whole class laughing – is enough to have the viewer punching the air in triumph. When rich video-store magnate Johnny Rose and his family suddenly find themselves broke, they are forced to leave their pampered lives to regroup in Schitt's Creek. While the main "teen" characters are masterfully played by 30-somethings, there is very little suspension of disbelief required; they're just that good.
Hulu's new show PEN15 follows teenagers, Maya and Anna, as they try their best to navigate seventh grade (year 7 to us Brits) without getting their braces caught on their Discman wires. Add the first question.
